- The material for testing is blood.
- The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.
Description
It is transported by the protein ceruloplasmin. It is excreted by the kidneys in urine and, in high concentrations, in bile.
Unbound copper damages cells, and when ceruloplasmin levels are reduced, it accumulates in tissues.
Abnormal values: in inflammatory processes, liver damage, copper storage disorders, Wilson's disease, Menkes syndrome, parenteral nutrition, and during pregnancy.
