- The patient does not need to be fasting.About 30 minutes before the test it is advisable to drink a glass of water.
Description
It is transported by the protein ceruloplasmin. Excreted by the kidneys in the urine and in high concentrations in the bile.
Unbound copper damages cells, when ceruloplasmin levels are reduced it is deposited in tissues.
Abnormal values: in inflammatory processes, liver damage, copper storage disorders, Wilson's disease, Menkes syndrome, parenteral nutrition, in pregnancy.
