Preparation for the examination

General

  • The test should not be performed in cases of exacerbation of heart failure, hypervolemia, urinary tract infections, or after significant physical exertion.
  • The test material is urine from a 24-hour urine collection (DUS).
To perform a 24-hour urine collection:
    1. Prepare a clean container with a volume of 2-3 liters.
    2. Begin urine collection in the morning of the day preceding the test. Use morning urine and urinate after the night.
    3. From now on, collect each urine sample in the prepared container, including the morning urine sample from the following day.
    4. Mix the collected urine thoroughly. Measure the volume of the collected urine, pour approximately 100-200 ml of urine from the large container into the urinalysis container, and deliver the prepared sample to the laboratory.
    5. Label the sample container with the following information: first name, last name, total urine volume, and the start and end time of collection.
Store the container with the 24-hour urine collection in a cool, dark place.

Description

Microalbuminuria is characterized by the excretion of albumin into the urine at concentrations exceeding normal values, in the absence of clinically detectable nephropathy. Moderately elevated albumin excretion is considered a prognostic factor for the development of clinical kidney disease in patients with hypertension or diabetes.
