Description
Amylase is secreted mainly in the pancreas and salivary glands, undergoes glomerular filtration
and is excreted in the urine. Examination of the enzyme in urine facilitates the diagnosis of acute pancreatitis.
Increased values: acute pancreatitis, duodenal ulcer perforation, cholelithiasis, pancreatic duct stones, pancreatic cancer, diseases of the salivary glands (mumps, salivary gland inflammation).
Decreased values: liver disease, kidney disease.
