Preparation for the examination

General

  • – Antihistamines should be discontinued well in advance, as recommended by an allergist. If the patient's condition prevents discontinuation of the medications, inform your doctor! (Klemastin – 7-10 days; Promethazine – 7 days; Hydroxyzine – 7 days; Ketotifen – 2-3 weeks; Terfenadine – 7 days; Cetirizine, Claritin, Loratadine -7 days; Astemizole – 2 months; Tricyclic antidepressants – 10-14 days; Cinetidine, ranitidine – 5 days; Local steroids – 2-3 weeks; Systemic steroids above 10 mg/day equivalent to prednisone – 3-6 weeks).
    – Vitamins and calcium should be discontinued well in advance – about 4-5 days.
    – Before performing the tests, the patient should report to the doctor any exacerbation of allergic disease symptoms, acute infectious diseases and chronic diseases (treatment of hypertension) and any sudden symptoms during the tests (weakness, cough, hoarseness, shortness of breath, vision or swallowing problems, itching of the skin, pain at the site of contact with the allergen) – the doctor will decide on the possibility of performing or continuing the tests.
  • Protect the test site from moisture. When bathing, be careful not to get the patch or the surrounding skin wet. If it gets wet, the patch may come off, and the test will need to be repeated.
  • The use of local or systemic corticosteroids and drugs that inhibit cellular immunity should be discontinued at least 2 weeks before the test – the patient’s physician should decide whether to discontinue the drugs.
  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds as exposure to light may affect the test results.
  • Any situations that may cause excessive sweating should be avoided (e.g. sunbathing or exercise).
  • The test is not performed during antibiotic therapy – you should wait approximately 2 weeks after taking the last dose of antibiotics.
