Description of the study
OCT is optical coherence tomography of the fundus of the eye is a modern test that allows evaluation of the organ of vision. The examination is mainly used in the diagnosis of retinal diseases. It is a non-invasive examination and thus can replace more complicated methods. Performing an OCT examination of the eye makes it possible to obtain a cross-sectional model of the tissues. The whole procedure is somewhat similar to ultrasound. A beam of light is introduced into the organ, which, by reflecting, informs about the position of the various parts. OCT examination is performed in people who, for example, have age-related macular degeneration. Diabetes is also an indication. People who have macular edema present are also referred for OCT of the eye. These may be of unknown origin. This is when OCT helps make the diagnosis.

The examination is painless, the light beam with which the camera takes measurements is completely safe for the eye.
