Description
Anti-granulocyte antibody testing is used to diagnose vasculitis.
cANCA antibodies demonstrate high specificity and sensitivity for Wegener's granulomatosis.
This is a chronic
disease characterized by fever and granuloma formation, primarily affecting the nasopharynx, lungs
, and kidneys.
The titer of these antibodies correlates
with clinical disease activity.
Anti-myeloperoxidase antibodies, which are present as pANCA antibodies, may indicate life-threatening conditions
such as granulomatosis rapid progressiva, polyangiitis microscopica, and other forms of vasculitis.
pANCA is also detected in ulcerative colitis and cholangitis primaria scleroticans.
The test is performed using the indirect immunofluorescence method using a granulocyte smear,
as well as the ELISA method, which allows the analysis of antibodies directed against individual antigens – enzymes, contained in granulocyte granules – proteinase 3, lactoferrin, myeloperoxidase, elastase, cathepsin G, lysozyme.
