Preparation for the examination

- The material for testing is blood.
- The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.
Description
Antibodies to dsDNA are found exclusively in lupus erythematodes disseminatus (systemic lupus erythematosus).
Due to their high specificity (60-90%), the presence of anti-dsDNA antibodies is one of the most important diagnostic criteria for this disease.
Furthermore, individuals with these antibodies develop systemic lupus erythematosus in 85% of cases within 5 years of diagnosis.
Because disease activity correlates with antibody concentration, antibody titer assessment is useful for monitoring therapy.
