Description
Antibodies to dsDNA are found exclusively in the course of Lupus eythematodes disseminatus (visceral lupus).
Because of its high degree of specificity (60-90%), the presence of antibodies to dsDNA is one of the most important diagnostic criteria for this disease.
In addition, individuals with these antibodies develop systemic visceral lupus in 85% of cases within 5 years of testing.
Because disease activity correlates with antibody levels, assessment of antibody titers is suitable for controlling therapy.
