Preparation for the examination
General
- The material for testing is blood.
- The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.
Description
Platelets (thrombocytes) are small, platelet-shaped, non-nuclear blood cells produced in the bone marrow and circulating in the blood for approximately 10 days.
They contain enzymes and play an important role in the blood clotting process.
The importance of this test: in diagnosing frequent bleeding and thrombosis.
Abnormal values: in cases of an enlarged spleen, after spleen removal, during prolonged stays in high-altitude environments, after hemorrhage, trauma, and surgery, in cases of abnormal platelet formation, in hematological malignancies, and in bone marrow damage caused by radiation and toxic chemicals.
