Preparation for the study
General
- The test material is blood.
- The patient does not need to be fasting.About 30 minutes before the test, it is advisable to drink a glass of water or bitter(unsweetened) tea.
Description
Platelets (thrombocytes) are small platelet-shaped cells without a cell nucleus, formed in the bone marrow, circulating in the blood for about 10 days .
They contain enzymes and play an important role in the process of blood clotting.
Importance of the test: in the diagnosis of frequent bleeding and thrombosis.
Abnormal values: with an enlarged spleen, after removal of the spleen, during a long stay in high mountain conditions, after hemorrhages, trauma and surgery, with abnormal platelet formation, in tumors of the hematopoietic system, with damage to the bone marrow by radiation and toxic chemicals.
