Description

Phl p 1 and Phl p 5 are the main markers of allergy to timothy grass and other grasses. In individuals with grass allergy symptoms, positive results for these molecules are a good marker indicating a high chance of effectiveness of immunotherapy with an allergen vaccine.

Bet v 1 – the main birch molecule, most often responsible for clinical symptoms. In individuals with birch allergy symptoms, a positive result for this molecule is a good marker indicating a high chance of effectiveness of immunotherapy with an allergen vaccine. Individuals allergic to this birch molecule may also report oral complaints after consuming raw vegetables and fruit, and may also experience inhalation symptoms during the pollen season of other trees, such as hazel, alder, or oak.

Phl p 7, Phl p 12, and Bet v 2 are allergens responsible for cross-reactions between grass, weed, and tree pollen. Positive results for these molecules alone may indicate a low chance of efficacy for immunotherapy with an allergen vaccine. Cross-reactions may (rarely) result in symptoms after consuming plant foods such as melon, tomato, orange, or other tropical fruits.
