- Cultures from swabs taken from intimate areas (vulva, foreskin, glans, etc.) are collected in a gynecological office by a midwife/doctor. An appointment is required for this test.
Other swabs are collected without prior reservation during the opening hours of the collection point.
Preparation for the examination
General
- The material should be collected before the first dose of antibiotic is administered.
- Culture is performed for aerobic bacteria.
- Depending on the place from which the sample is to be collected, the material for testing may be collected by a doctor/midwife in a gynecological office
– in such a case, an appointment for the test is required.
Important
As part of the culture, an antibiogram is also performed. If the bacteria are part of the normal bacterial flora, which does not warrant an antibiogram,
then one is not performed.
An antibiogram is performed when pathogenic bacteria (responsible for infection) are growing in the area where the inflammatory process is ongoing.
If further microbiological diagnostics are necessary, the time to obtain the results may be longer.
