Preparation for the examination
General
- A stool sample should be collected as soon as possible after the onset of diarrhea symptoms and before initiating antibacterial treatment.
Stool in a container should be delivered to the laboratory within a few hours at room temperature.
Stool collected on a swab in transport medium should be delivered within 72 hours.
Important
If further microbiological diagnostics are necessary, the time it takes to issue the result may be longer.
