Preparation for the examination
General
- A stool sample should be collected as soon as possible after the onset of diarrhea symptoms and before initiating antibacterial treatment.
Stool in a container should be delivered to the laboratory within a few hours at room temperature.
Stool collected on a swab in transport medium should be delivered within 72 hours.
Important
In the diagnosis of diarrhea, if Yersinia sp. is detected, an antibiogram is not performed.
If further microbiological testing is necessary, the time to obtain the result may be longer.

Description
Stool culture for pathogenic Yersinia enterobacteria is performed in people with diarrhea.
NOTE:
Pursuant to the Regulation of the Minister of Health of June 26, 2020 (Journal of Laws of 2020, item 1118), a positive test result must be reported by the laboratory performing the test to the District Sanitary and Epidemiological Station.
