Preparation for the study
General
- Urine should be collected before starting treatment.
For the test, take the first morning urine sample.
The urine collected should linger in the bladder for a minimum of 4 hours after the last micturition, i.e. natural urination.
After washing the reproductive organs, urine should be collected in a sterile container
(minimum quantity 5 ml)
or container with transport medium (e.g., Uricult, Uriline) by filling it with a central urine stream without touching the inside or rim. From newborns, urine can be collected into a pouch, using this method, it should be taken into account that only a negative result has diagnostic significance.
Thoroughly close the container, sign the name. In the case of transport medium
Follow the manufacturer's instructions.
For patients with a catheter, the method of collecting the material should be consulted with the attending physician.
The collected material should be delivered to the laboratory by
2 hours after collection,
if this is not possible, store until transport at 4-8 degrees C.
Store and send urine on transport medium (e.g. Uricult, Uriline) at room temperature for up to 8 hours. - The culture is performed for aerobic bacteria.
Important
Antibiogram is performed when we get the growth of pathogenic bacteria (responsible for the infection)-where the inflammatory process is going on.
Don't forget to sign the sample container!
If further microbiological diagnosis is required, the time for issuing the result may be prolonged.
It is possible to perform from the same material - urine analysis, provided that the urine container is sterile without transport medium.
For patients with a catheter, the method of collecting the material should be consulted with the attending physician.
