Preparation for the examination
General
- Immediately before collecting a swab (at least 1 hour), you should not: eat, drink sugary drinks/juices, chew gum, brush your teeth, use mouthwash or lozenges, or smoke.
The sample should be collected before the first dose of antibiotics is administered.
A culture is performed for aerobic bacteria.
The sample is collected at the collection point/treatment room.
Important
As part of the culture, an antibiogram is also performed. If the bacteria are part of the normal bacterial flora and do not warrant an antibiogram, then one is not performed.
An antibiogram is performed when we observe the growth of pathogenic bacteria (responsible for the infection) - where the inflammatory process is taking place.

If further microbiological diagnostics are necessary, the time it takes to issue the result may be longer.
It is possible to analyze a swab brought in from outside, provided the material was collected by a physician/medical staff. We do not accept material collected by the patient themselves.
Description
Store the swabs with the transport medium at room temperature until they are delivered to the laboratory (within 48 hours).
