- Before collecting the sample, hygiene procedures involving disinfectants or intravaginal medications should be avoided.
A culture is performed for aerobic bacteria.
Important
The test should not be performed during menstruation.
As part of the culture, an antibiogram is also performed. If the bacteria are part of the normal bacterial flora and do not warrant an antibiogram, then one is not performed.
An antibiogram is performed when we observe the growth of pathogenic bacteria (responsible for the infection) - where the inflammatory process is taking place.
