- A conjunctival swab is collected without prior appointment. Check the opening hours of the collection point.
- Swabs from other areas of the eye are collected only by an ophthalmologist during a medical consultation – an appointment is required! Cultures performed by a doctor should absolutely be collected during the opening hours of the collection point.
Preparation for the examination
General
- The specimen should be collected before the anesthetic is administered. It should be collected at least 4 hours after the last administration of disinfectant drops or chemotherapy drugs.
- The material should be collected before the first dose of antibiotic is administered.
- Culture is performed for aerobic bacteria.
Important
As part of the culture, an antibiogram is also performed. If the bacteria are part of the normal bacterial flora and do not warrant an antibiogram, then one is not performed.
An antibiogram is performed when we observe the growth of pathogenic bacteria (responsible for the infection) - where the inflammatory process is taking place.

If further microbiological diagnostics are necessary, the time it takes to issue the result may be longer.
It is possible to analyze a swab brought in from outside, provided the material was collected by a physician/medical staff. We do not accept material collected by the patient themselves.
