- Samples collected outside the Luxmed Medical Center can be delivered to the collection point without prior reservation. Please check the collection point's opening hours.
The collected sample must be delivered to the laboratory on the day of collection if the material is in a syringe. Samples collected on a swab with transport medium should be delivered within 48 hours. - Material, for example, from the knee, can be collected by a doctor during a puncture – an appointment is required.
- If the sample being tested is breast milk, we accept the collected sample without prior appointment. Please check the collection point's opening hours.
Preparation for the examination
General
- The material should be collected before the first dose of antibiotic is administered.
- Culture is performed for aerobic bacteria.
Specific for women
- Breast milk culture is considered a body fluid culture.
The breast should be washed immediately before collection.
Milk should be collected from the breast into a sterile container (without transport medium) and delivered to the collection point immediately after collection (within a maximum of 4 hours). The minimum sample size is 1 ml of milk.
Important
As part of the culture, an antibiogram is also performed. If the bacteria are part of the normal bacterial flora and do not warrant an antibiogram, then one is not performed.
An antibiogram is performed when we observe the growth of pathogenic bacteria (responsible for the infection) - where the inflammatory process is taking place.
If further microbiological diagnostics are necessary, the time it takes to issue the result may be longer.
