Description of the study
Posturography consists of a static and a dynamic component (on a moving platform). It is an objective method for assessing the functional status of the balance system, which monitors the shift in the subject's center of gravity. It is used in the diagnosis of patients with damage to the balance system (vestibular neuronitis, posttraumatic labyrinth damage, Meniere's disease) and those with central balance disorders. The test is also used in the diagnosis and assessment of geriatric patients.
The test assesses both the status of the labyrinth itself and visual and somatostatic (proprioceptive) functions. The patient stands on a platform (first stationary, then moving) attempting to maintain balance while visually monitoring a reference point, with eyes closed and with optokinesis (distraction of vision).
