Description of the study

The tetany test is also known as the neuromuscular hyperexcitability test or the ischemic test. It is used to diagnose tetany, a condition characterized by increased neuromuscular excitability. The test is performed using a needle electrode inserted into the muscle between the thumb and index finger. An elastic band is then placed on the patient's arm for approximately 10 minutes to stop blood flow (this results in numbness in the arm and intense tingling, which is quite unpleasant). After releasing the cuff, the patient is observed for the appearance of symptoms characteristic of tetany.
