Preparation for the examination

General

  • The material for testing is blood.
  • The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink fluids before the examination.

Important

As part of the study for patients aged 18 and over, the glomerular filtration rate eGFR is calculated.

Description

Urea is the end product of amino acid catabolism. It is excreted by the kidneys depending on the degree of diuresis.
The concentration of urea in the blood depends on the protein intake in food and on the amount of urea excreted by the kidneys.

Creatinine is a byproduct of muscle creatine. With normal kidney function, almost all creatinine is filtered by the glomeruli.
It serves as a marker of glomerular filtration rate. Serum creatinine concentration is independent of either urine volume or diet.

The glomerular filtration rate eGFR is calculated as standard when determining serum creatinine concentration only in adults (>18 years of age).
eGFR is used to determine the amount of plasma filtered per unit of time.

Uric acid is produced during the breakdown of DNA and RNA and is excreted by the kidneys. When its concentration in the blood becomes too high, it precipitates as crystals,
which cause joint pain. Uric acid crystals are absorbed by mast cells, which secrete inflammatory mediators—gout attacks.

The importance of this test: diagnosis and monitoring of gout therapy.

Abnormal values: gout, renal failure, diseases associated with increased cell destruction.

Ordering a test means consent to its performance using the spectrophotometric method.
