Preparation for the study

General

  • The test material is blood.
  • The patient does not need to be fasting. It is advisable to drink fluids before the test.

Important

As part of the study, the glomerular filtration rate eGFR is calculated for patients 18 years of age and older.

Description

Urea - represents the end product of amino acid catabolism. It is excreted by the kidneys depending on the degree of diuresis.
The concentration of urea in the blood depends on the supply of protein in food and the amount of urea excreted by the kidneys.

Creatinine is a product of muscle creatine. With normal kidney function, creatinine is almost entirely filtered by the glomeruli.
It serves as a marker of renal glomerular filtration rate. Serum creatinine concentration does not depend on either urine volume or diet.

The glomerular filtration rate eGFR is calculated by standard determination of serum creatinine concentration only in adults (>18 years of age)
eGFR is used to determine the amount of plasma filtered per unit time.

Uric acid is formed during the breakdown of DNA and RNA acids, and is excreted by the kidneys. When its concentration in the blood is too high, it precipitates in the form of crystals,
which are the cause of joint pain. Uric acid crystals are taken up by mast cells, which secrete mediators of the inflammatory process- gout attacks.

Importance of the test: diagnosis and control of gout therapy.

Abnormal values: gout, renal failure, diseases with increased cellular breakdown.
