Preparation for the examination
General
- The material for testing is blood.
- The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.
Description
The anti-HBs test can be used to monitor the immune response to hepatitis B vaccination. Quantitative measurement of anti-HBs to assess post-vaccination immunization can identify patients who did not respond or had an atypical response to vaccination and can also monitor changes in antibody concentration. Currently, an anti-HBs antibody titer of 10 mIU/ml is considered protective against infection.
The anti-HBs test can also be used to monitor recovery from acute hepatitis B. Detection of anti-HBs antibodies indicates that the infection has peaked and the patient has begun to fight the disease, as the antibodies produced neutralize the virus.
