Preparation for the study
General
- The test material is blood.
- The patient does not need to be fasting.About 30 minutes before the test, it is advisable to drink a glass of water or bitter(unsweetened) tea.
Description
Antibodies against kidney and liver microsomes (LKM- liver kidney microsomes) are found in various forms of chronic hepatitis.
Antibodies directed against LKM-1 are recognized as a marker of autoimmune hepatitis type II.
Children account for 50 to 75% of all affected patients. Extrahepatic manifestations, i.e., arthralgias, glomerulonephritis, vitiligo and chronic inflammatory liver disease are often associated with autoimmune hepatitis.
