Description
The parietal cells of the gastric mucosa produce hydrochloric acid and intrinsic factor.
Antibodies against parietal cells are detected in patients with chronic atrophic gastritis and pernicious anemia (related to vitamin B12 deficiency), as well as in patients with endocrinopathy and
in asymptomatic individuals. These antibodies are predominantly IgA and IgG.
