Description

Celiac disease is a condition characterized by impaired digestion and absorption in the intestines due to intolerance to gluten found in cereals. This abnormal immune response is caused by an excessive immune response to a group of cereal proteins called prolamins, specifically the prolamin-derived fractions gliadin (in wheat), secalin (in barley), and hordein (in rye). The tTG test is recommended for screening individuals for celiac disease, as it is characterized by very high sensitivity (over 90%) and specificity (almost 100%).

IgG antibodies against tissue transglutaminase should be tested in all patients suspected of celiac disease who have been diagnosed with selective IgA antibody deficiency.
