Description

Ureaplasma urealyticum colonizes the urinary tract and genital organs, such as the urethra, vagina, cervix, prostate, and epididymis.
The infection is often asymptomatic. U. urealyticum causes chorioamnionitis, which can lead to miscarriage or premature birth.
Respiratory infections and meningitis can sometimes occur in newborns, especially in underweight infants.
Lower genital infections occur in 40-80% of women and 5-20% of men of sexually active age. The infection is caused by sexual contact, and in over 50% of cases, infection also occurs during childbirth.
IgG antibodies indicate a past infection. These are immune antibodies that appear in the body approximately one month after infection.
They can persist in the body for life.
