Description
Ureaplasma urealyticum colonizes in the urinary tract and genital organs, such as the urethra, vagina, cervix, prostate gland and epididymides.
The infection is often asymptomatic. U.urealyticum causes inflammation of the fetal membranes, which can lead to miscarriage or premature labor.
Sometimes respiratory infection and meningitis can occur in newborns, especially in underweight infants.
40-80% of women and 5-20% of men of active sexual age develop lower genital infections. The cause of the infection is sexual contact, and in more than 50% of cases the infection also occurs during childbirth.
IgM- antibodies are indicative of a fresh, ongoing infection. They appear in the body about 3 days after infection and persist until about 1-2 months.
