Description
The test is performed to determine post-vaccination immunity to tick-borne encephalitis.
Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE), also known as early summer or spring-summer encephalitis, is a seasonal viral disease of the central nervous system transmitted by ticks.
In most cases, TBE virus infection is asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic.
In children, the disease is milder than in adults. Severe disease is much more common in people over 40. Initially, the virus multiplies in cells at the site of infection – the tick bite – and then spreads through the lymphatic vessels to nearby lymph nodes and the reticuloendothelial system (spleen, liver, bone marrow), from where it can be transported to the CNS via the bloodstream. This is the incubation period, usually lasting 7 to 28 days.

Due to the nonspecific nature of the clinical picture and basic laboratory test results, the diagnosis should be confirmed by virological tests. However, serological tests are most commonly used, including immunofluorescence techniques (ELISA), which detect specific IgG and IgM antibodies.
