Preparation for the examination
General
- The material for testing is blood.
- The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.
- Due to the possibility of falsely elevated results, the test should not be performed immediately after a biopsy, transureteral resection, palpation, sexual intercourse, or competitive cycling. In such cases, the test should be performed after 48 hours.

Wolny PSA – nieskompleksowany specyficzny antygen sterczowy prostaty niezwiązany z alfa-antychymotrypsyną i z innymi białkami wiążacymi surowicy.
Wolny PSA stanowi znacząco (p<0.0001) mniejsza frakcję u chorych na nie leczonego raka prostaty niż u chorych z łagodnym przerostem prostaty (BPH).
U mężczyzn z poziomem PSA w surowicy niższym niż 10ng/ml, porównanie całkowitego stężenia PSA ze stężeniem frakcji wolnej jest proponowane
jako czynnik różnicujący raka prostaty i BPH.
