Preparation for the examination
General
- The material for testing is blood.
- The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.
Important
Fasting is not required for the test, but eating before the test may affect the results. Therefore, it is recommended to perform the test at least two hours after consuming your last meal. Strenuous physical activity is not recommended the day before the test, as it may also affect the test results.
Description
Normally, we distinguish five types of white blood cells, reported as an expanded blood count (ECC), which is the number of each type of blood cell per unit volume:
– neutrophils
– eosinophils
– basophils
– lymphocytes
– monocytes.
The blood smear is reported in % – it is a so-called "manual" blood smear (Schilling's formula)
. This is an accredited test. Ordering the test constitutes consent to its performance using optical microscopy.
