Preparation
- Before the planned examination, you should refrain from any major physical exertion (at least 30 minutes).
- Before the examination, you should refrain from eating large meals, drinking alcohol, strong coffee, tea, or cola.
- Please wear loose clothing that does not restrict movement.
- Patients taking inhaled medications should discuss discontinuing their medication with their physician before the examination.
- Patients with an increased gag reflex, including those caused by gastroesophageal reflux, should, after consulting their doctor, take medications to alleviate the symptoms.
- It is advisable to take a small bottle of still water with you to the examination.
- Carrying out the examination requires close cooperation between the patient and the person performing the examination.
- Contraindications to the examination include a current acute upper respiratory tract infection and hemoptysis.
Description of the study
This test assesses the efficiency of the respiratory tract and lungs (respiratory capacity measurements). The test involves measuring the volume of air in the respiratory system. It allows for the assessment of respiratory capacity, determining lung capacity and the gases contained within the lungs. It also provides information on the ventilation efficiency of the respiratory system.

Purpose of the study:
- diagnosis of lung diseases
- assessment of occupational risk of exposure to harmful substances in the air.
The test can detect conditions such as COPD, a chronic bronchopulmonary disease that primarily affects smokers.
Spirometry takes just a few minutes. Results are presented in the form of a graphical chart.
Indications
- feeling of shortness of breath accompanied by paroxysmal or chronic cough,
- shortness of breath during the pollen season of trees and grasses,
- the period of convalescence and rehabilitation after respiratory diseases,
- smoking tobacco.
Contraindications
- current acute upper respiratory tract infection,
- hemoptysis.
