Preparation for the study

General

  • The test material is blood.
  • The prescribed dose of glucose is given to the patient at our facilities.
  • The patient must be fasting, at least 12 hours after eating the last meal, unless otherwise instructed by the doctor (e.g., performing the test after a meal)
  • Only plain water or bitter (unsweetened) tea can be drunk before the test.
  • Do not drink coffee, flavored water, cola light/ cola "zero" drinks, energy drinks, juices.
  • Do not eat meals, snacks, fruits, vegetables, breath freshening candies, chew gum, smoke cigarettes.
  • You must remain on site throughout the study.
  • After the first fasting blood draw, the patient is given a glucose solution to drink, and then subsequent blood samples are drawn at prescribed intervals.
  • It is advisable to eat a meal after the test is completed,
    due to the possibility of reactive hypoglycemia (fainting)

Detailed for children

  • Glucose load test for children under 18 years of age can be performed only at CM Luxmed facilities
    At Radziwillowska 5, Zwycieska 6A and Orkana 7 streets.
  • For children under 3 years of age, it is recommended to draw blood from half to one hour after feeding.

  • About 30 minutes before the test, it is recommended to consume water or bitter (unsweetened) tea.

Important

A referral from a doctor is required for the test. In minors ( under 18 years of age), the referral must specify the dose of glucose load and the time of collection of subsequent samples after the load.
Samples brought from outside are not accepted for the test.

Description

Oral glucose loading test, is used to diagnose diabetes mellitus in people with normal or slightly elevated fasting sugar levels.
Glucose is administered orally and the level is determined at fasting and 2h after glucose administration.
