General
- The material for testing is blood.
- The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.
Description
In men, testosterone is the most important androgen secreted by the interstitial cells of the testis—the Leydig cells. Testosterone circulates in plasma bound to a specific protein, SHBG. Only the free form of testosterone is biologically active. With age, free testosterone concentrations decline more than total testosterone.
