TORCH is an acronym derived from the names of infectious diseases that are usually asymptomatic or mild in people without immune impairment, while during pregnancy they have a significant impact on the health of the baby and can cause birth defects in newborns.

The TORCH 10 IgG test profile includes:

T- Toxoplasmosis,

O- Other (other): parvovirus B19, smallpox, syphilis, pertussis, chlamydia trachomatis

R- Rose,

C- Cytomegalovirus,

H- Herpes ( herpes virus) 1 and 2.

The effects of TORCH microbial infection in the fetus may appear immediately after birth, in infancy or in later years.

The most serious consequences are fetal infections in early pregnancy. Severe malformations and even pregnancy loss can then occur.

TORCH Profile IgG - detects antibodies in class G indicative of past infection. These are immune antibodies that protect the body from fresh infection.

In the case of a high titer of these antibodies, a woman planning a pregnancy should rule out a history of recent infection ( within the last 6 months) by performing an antibody avidity test.
