Preparation for the examination
General
- The material for testing is blood.
- The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.
Important
Eating a meal does not directly affect the result, but may cause lipemia in the blood serum, which may interfere with the test, therefore it is recommended to collect blood 1-2 hours after the last meal
Description
The Toxoplasma IgM test is intended specifically for women of reproductive age.
It is used to diagnose toxoplasmosis – the acute form of the disease, recent infection, and reactivation of the infection.
Correct diagnosis of toxoplasmosis is particularly important for pregnant women, as early treatment reduces the risk of fetal damage.
If a positive result is obtained in newborns, the test result must be reported to the Polish Social Welfare Office (PSSE) in accordance with the RMZ of June 26, 2020.
The presence of IgM antibodies in the blood indicates an ongoing disease process.
NOTE:
In accordance with the RMZ of June 26, 2020, a positive test result obtained in a newborn must be reported to the PSSE.
