Trichogram (hair examination)

• You must not wash your hair for about 3-4 days before the examination.
• During this time, you should refrain from using any hair care cosmetics (conditioners, hairsprays, mousses, etc.) and medicinal preparations.
• In the case of colored hair, at least 2 cm of regrowth is necessary.
• If the patient has short hair or a shaved head, wait until the hair grows to a length of at least 0.5 cm.

A trichogram examines the mechanism and cause of hair loss and assesses the condition of the hair. The test involves microscopic evaluation of approximately 100 hairs taken from four or five areas of the scalp. The hair follicles and hair shafts are assessed. The findings help determine the cause of hair loss (specific characteristics for specific forms of hair loss) and, consequently, guide treatment selection (e.g., appropriate selection of mesotherapy ingredients, local and systemic treatment). It aims to determine the structure of the hair and examine its appearance.
Purpose: The results of this test confirm or rule out the diagnosis of scarring alopecia; it may indicate infection as the cause of hair loss, alopecia areata, or other causes.
The test is performed on patients of all ages, including pregnant women.

• baldness in women,
• male pattern baldness in cases where the diagnosis of male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) is not obvious,
• diagnosis of genetically determined hair shaft damage syndromes,
• hair loss caused by a disease process or without an identified cause.
