Triglycerides

• The test material is blood.

Triglycerides serve as carriers and energy stores. They consist of glycerol and fatty acids. They can also be produced by the body.
Significance of the study: assessment of fat metabolism, atherosclerosis risk.
Abnormal values: metabolic disorders, atherosclerosis, alcohol abuse, diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease, hypothyroidism.
Factors that may affect the outcome of the study:
Patients must be fasting at least 12 hours after eating their last meal, unless otherwise instructed by the doctor (e.g., performing the test after a meal).
