- Approximately 30 minutes before the examination, it is recommended to drink 1 glass of water only.
- The patient must fast. On the day before the test, a light,
low-fat diet is recommended, along with refraining from intense physical activity and stimulants. - On the day of your blood test, you should avoid drinking coffee or smoking. It's recommended to drink a glass of water.
Rest for 15-20 minutes before your blood test.
Detailed for babies
- For children up to 3 years of age, it is recommended to collect blood half to one hour after feeding.
Description
The coagulation process initiated by thromboplastin released from damaged tissue is replicated in the laboratory. This is the plasma clotting time after the addition of thromboplastin and calcium chloride. INR – prothrombin ratio – is another way of expressing the prothrombin time result – recommended by the WHO. Significance of the test: One of the coagulation tests, it indicates a possible deficiency of factor VII or vitamin K. It is used to monitor treatment with oral anticoagulants (coumarin derivatives, e.g., acenocoumarol, sintrom, syncomar), and is a control test before planned surgery. Abnormal values may occur
in: kidney disease, in the absence of coagulation factors.
APTT – a sensitive screening test used to assess coagulation.
Significance of the test: diagnostics and differential diagnosis of bleeding disorders, monitoring of heparin therapy, monitoring replacement therapy in hemophilia A and B, and preoperative screening for coagulopathy.
Prolonged clotting time: individual coagulation factor deficiency, consumptive coagulopathy, heparin/hirudin therapy, acquired lupus anticoagulant.
Shortened clotting time: may be an expression of hypercoagulability.
