Preparation
- The day before the examination, a light diet is recommended, avoiding carbonated drinks and fiber.
- Just before the service, it is recommended to have a bowel movement and urinate to ensure the cleanliness of the intestines and the patient's comfort during the examination.
Description of the study
Transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) is a diagnostic method that allows for a thorough assessment of the prostate gland. Images of the gland are obtained by inserting an ultrasound probe into the rectum. The examination is performed with the patient lying on their side. The experience is similar to a rectal examination by a urologist.
Indications
- accurate determination of the size of the prostate,
- assessment of inflammatory changes,
- search for and assessment of tumor foci.
