Antibodies to Yersinia enterocolitica are detected in the course of a disease called yersiniosis. This is a zoonotic disease of the gastrointestinal tract, usually manifested by diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea. Complications of this disease are erythema nodosum - inflammatory changes of subcutaneous fatty tissue mainly on the anterior surface of the lower extremities, and reactive arthritis, most often of the large joints of the lower extremities, but also the joints of the wrist and fingers of the hands and the hip and sacroiliac joints. Other complications are immune-mediated changes: erythema multiforme, iritis, glomerulonephritis.
