Cervical cancer develops slowly and typically shows no early symptoms, which is why prevention is so important. The screening program has been expanded to include additional testing for high-risk HPV – the main factor responsible for the development of this disease. This allows for early detection, even several years before the first symptoms appear.
Who is the program for?
For women aged 25 – 64 (year of birth 2001 – 1962) who:
- have not performed gynecological cytology screening as part of a preventive program in the last 3 years,
- have not been diagnosed with malignant cervical cancer,
- are not undergoing oncological treatment.
What tests can you get for free?
The program includes two types of research:
Traditional scheme
- gynecological screening cytology
- performed every 3 years if the test result is negative and there are no risk factors, or more frequently as indicated by the result if the result is positive.
New scheme
- HPV HR test with genotyping (including types 16 and 18), which enables the detection of DNA or RNA of highly oncogenic types of human papillomaviruses (HPV) in a smear taken from the cervix
- performed every 5 years – if the HPV HR test result is negative and there are no risk factors, or more frequently according to the result indications if the result is positive
- will be performed from the same sample liquid cytology (LCC) (without the need to repeat the visit to collect the material).
The test results determine further proceedings
If the results of the screening cytology or liquid-based cytology (LBC) include recommendations for further diagnostics, the patient may undergo colposcopy as part of the in-depth stage.
What does the examination look like?
The HPV HR test material is collected in the same manner as for conventional cytology. The sample is then transferred to a liquid-based medium, allowing for both the HPV HR molecular test and liquid-based cytology (LBC) to be performed from a single sample
The tests are performed at CM LUXMED:
- Lublin, ul. Radziwiłłowska 5, Koncertowa 4D, Orkana 7.
