Description of the study
Platelet-rich plasma is an autologous (derived from the patient's own blood, thus minimizing the risk of allergic reaction) platelet concentrate in a small volume of plasma.
Platelets release growth factors responsible for healing processes. These are mainly PDGF, TGF-β1, TGF-β2, VEGF and EGF.
The procedure involves taking the patient's peripheral blood, processing it with a special kit to separate and concentrate the platelets, and injecting them into the treated area.
The effects of the therapy begin to be felt after a few days to about four weeks, depending on the severity of the condition.
