Preparation
Preparation and post-treatment recommendations depend on the type of medication being administered. Your doctor will provide full details during your consultation.
Description of the study
Intra-articular injection involves inserting a needle into the affected joint to administer the preparation. The type of preparation depends on the indication and is individually selected by the physician to suit the patient's needs. The area of the puncture is disinfected with a disinfectant and secured with sterile gauze pads. The physician inserts a sterile needle connected to a pre-filled syringe into the joint. A sting is felt as it penetrates the skin and subcutaneous tissue (usually the pain is mild and brief; sometimes prior anesthesia of the skin and joint capsule is necessary). After the needle is removed, the puncture site is covered with a sterile dressing, which can be removed the same day).
Indications
- alleviating pain and joint mobility limitations resulting from post-traumatic or degenerative joint changes.
