Description of the study
The procedure involves non-surgical, mini-invasive removal of calcifications within the tendons, guided by ultrasound. We use this type of treatment as an alternative to on-table arthroscopy, for example, in patients with calcific tendinitis of the rotator cuff. The procedure involves puncturing the tendon's calcified cavity with a needle and flushing out the calcifications with saline.
Dosage: the treatment does not require a series of treatments.
Side effects: The procedure is safe; however, transient shoulder pain may occur during or after the procedure. Rarely, signs of inflammation, infection of the injection site, or allergic reactions may occur.
Indications
- calcification of the subacromial bursa or supraspinatus tendon,
- chronic shoulder pain,
- pain that increases when abducting the shoulder,
- pain that does not subside after conservative treatment,
- lack of mobility disorders.
Contraindications
- unstable diabetes or hypertension,
- allergy to anesthetics (lidocaine),
- improvement after conservative treatment.
