Treponema pallidum-confirmation tests (FTA, TPHA, VDRL,FTA ABS)

• The test material is blood.
• The patient does not need to be fasting.About 30 minutes before the test it is advisable to drink a glass of water.

A common feature of all serologic tests for syphilis is the detection of antibodies in the blood serum of the patient being tested, indicating infection with the paleo-sclerosis. Serological reactions, depending on their specificity, are divided into classical and ileal. FTA,FTA ABS belong to the spirochete type of reaction.In these methods, pale spirochetes are used as antigens to induce a specific serological reaction with specific antibodies.Often used from this group is the FTA reaction, which is based on the fact that the spirochetes used bind to the antibodies of the syphilis patient's serum to form complexes, and then the subsequent addition of fluorescein-labeled antibodies bind to these complexes, causing luminescence.
NOTE:
According to the Decree of the Minister of Health dated 26.06.2020, a positive test result is subject to mandatory reporting to the District Sanitary and Epidemiological Station.
