Scope of care provided by a primary care midwife

A midwife working in primary healthcare (PHC) offers comprehensive obstetrics and gynecology care for women, as well as neonatal care for newborns. She educates expectant mothers, including those with high-risk pregnancies, by creating educational plans and preparing them for labor. From the 26th week of pregnancy until delivery, midwives conduct regular check-ups, but no more than twice a week. After delivery, midwives provide care for newborns up to two months of age and for mothers during the postpartum period up to 42 days postpartum. Midwives also provide postoperative care for women after gynecological or gynecological-oncological procedures, through home visits. Midwives' care supports women at every stage of their lives.

A licensed primary care midwife can take a Pap smear.
