Postpartum care by the primary care midwife begins when the baby is born.
Notification for care can be made by hospital staff by phone before the patient is discharged home, or by the patient herself.
The first patronage visit should take place within 48 h after the patient leaves the hospital.
Patronage visits are concerned with the care of the patient and the newborn, and can take place at home or at the clinic.
A patient who has participated in the Active Mom birthing school receives the phone number of the midwife even before the birth and can make an appointment with the midwife herself.
The patient is entitled to 4-6 patronage visits by the primary care midwife (including lactation visits) until the 2nd month after delivery.
