Manual therapy is a method of manual mobilization that involves the assessment and treatment of dysfunctions of various structures of the musculoskeletal system, particularly the spine and peripheral joints. Its primary therapeutic goal is to restore normal joint mechanics and prevent disorders of the musculoskeletal system.
Manual therapy is the basis of rehabilitation.
Before beginning therapy, the physiotherapist conducts an interview with the patient and performs a palpation (touch) and functional examination of the musculoskeletal system. This examination is performed both at rest and during active and passive movements.
The therapist assesses the appearance and consistency of soft tissues, the range and quality of movement of bony elements, and the nature of resistance encountered during the movement of individual structures of the musculoskeletal system relative to each other. The therapist examines passive and active movements of the spine and joints, and assesses the musculoskeletal system's response to factors harmful to its structures.
Based on the interview and tests, the physiotherapist selects a manual therapy method appropriate to the patient's current functional status.
Indications for manual therapy:

- golfer's elbow
- carpal tunnel
- hip pain
- iliotibial band syndrome ITBS
- lateral patella compression

- chondromalacia of the patella
- and many others
Post-traumatic conditions
- muscle damage, strain
- sprain of the knee joint, ankle joint
- strain, tear, rupture of the cruciate ligaments of the knee (ACL, PCL)
- strain, tear, rupture of the collateral ligaments of the knee (MCL/LCL)
- meniscus damage
- patella dislocation/subluxation
- shoulder rotator cuff injury
- post-fracture conditions
- states after immobilization
- and many others
