Manual therapy - is a method of manual mobilization, which consists of the study and treatment of dysfunction of various structures of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine and peripheral joints. Its main therapeutic goal is to restore normal joint mechanics and counteract disorders of the osteoarticular system.
Manual therapy is the cornerstone of rehabilitation.
Before starting therapy, the physiotherapist conducts an interview with the patient, as well as a palpation (tactile examination) and functional examination of the musculoskeletal organ. This examination takes place both at rest and during active and passive movements.
The therapist evaluates the appearance and consistency of soft tissues, the range and quality of movement of bony elements, and the nature of resistance occurring when moving the various structures of the musculoskeletal system in relation to each other. He examines passive and active movements of the spine, joints and evaluates the responses of the musculoskeletal system to factors harmful to the structures of the system.
Based on the patient's history and examination, the physiotherapist selects a manual therapy method to suit the patient's current functional state.
